Welcome to Yukon Grill!

On the last day of July, 1897, two young brothers, Joseph and Kurtrick Von Michel stood on the cold streets of Skagway Alaska with broken hearts. They watched as the group of men, including their father, began the long and dangerous trek over Chilkoot pass to the Yukon River which would take them to gold. Deciding that his sons would not survive the journey, Papa Patrich Von Michel left the boys on their own, telling them he would see them within the year, and together they would return to Seattle, rich beyond their wildest dreams. The boys set up camp among the other “stampeders”, and with a meager food supply, and skills learned in their Mother’s kitchen, soon began making a few dollars selling meals to hungry men. As the year passed, and demand for their services grew, the campsite grew into a shack, and then a small cabin where it is said that tears were often shed by the men returning from the gold fields, and experiencing their first taste of home at the Yukon Grill.
